What is Carbon Monoxide?

Carbon monoxide, or “CO,” is an odorless, colorless gas that can harm you, make you sick, or even kill you.
On any gas furnace  it is important to realize that furnaces produce Carbon monoxide.
While most all furnaces vent the poisonous gases out of the home safely it is important enough to have it checked.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says:
"Everyone is at risk for CO poisoning. Infants, the elderly, people with chronic heart disease, anemia, or breathing problems are more likely to get sick from CO. Each year, more than 400 Americans die from unintentional CO poisoning not linked to fires, more than 20,000 visit the emergency room, and more than 4,000 are hospitalized."
Check out more on what the CDC says about Carbon Monoxide (CO) here.
Here at Cannan Heating and Cooling we have all the necessary equipment to detect CO and repair the cause.  We know you take your health and safety very seriously, we do too!

Does My Furnace Need Repairs?

Picture
A high quality and safe functioning furnace is an investment in your home that you should take seriously. When temperatures plummet during those frigid winter nights, it is crucial to have a heating system that works efficiently and safe.  If you do encounter problems, it’s important to have a reputable heating expert to turn to. No one expects their furnace to shut down in the middle of a cold winter night, but you don’t need to be caught off-guard, either.

If you pay attention, you’ll probably notice signs that are telling you the furnace is in need of repairs. The average homeowner doesn’t have the skill to inspect the unit and diagnose problems, but you can tell if your bills have been higher or if the heater has been banging and knocking when in use. Anything out of the ordinary could be something that requires repairs, so don’t hesitate to call.  We offer 24/7 emergency service.

Don’t Forget to Schedule Yearly Maintenance.
If you call a technician for maintenance once a year, just before the weather starts getting colder, you can likely avoid many of the issues that a lot of homeowners face with their systems. When you have maintenance, you get your entire system inspected and cleaned up, so the chances of something going wrong during the winter are reduced. The system will also run more efficiently, which will result in lower heating bills each month.

Shopping for Service Providers.
High quality technical services with exceptional customer service, delivered by a local company, is what you should be looking for in a service provider. You want a company that has experience with every brand name and every manufacturer, and one that is willing to offer support after the fact.
It’s not unusual for your heating system to encounter problems, especially during the winter when it is working hardest. The important thing is how you respond when those problems come up.

Call Cannan Heating and Cooling at (618) 252-2665 as soon as you notice any trouble and we will get your furnace running smoothly in no time.

When Should I Have My Furnace Replaced?
Saying you should have your furnace replaced every 15 or 20 years doesn’t paint the clearest picture of the situation. It’s true, a properly installed heating system can last for up to 20 years, but you have to take care of it during that time. Sometimes, as a furnace gets older the repairs start to add up and the cost of repairs doesn’t justify keeping the old system around. There may also be newer, more energy efficient furnaces available that will save money when compared to the older one. The key is to align yourself with a trusted heating expert and then follow their advice on when the best time is to switch your old furnace for a new one.
Longer Furnace Life with Yearly Maintenance.
One way to help your furnace reach that 20-year mark is to keep it in good condition with regular maintenance checks. If you have maintenance performed on your furnace every year, it will stay clean and won’t build up dirt and grime with each passing year. The longer it goes between maintenance visits, the less efficient it will be and the higher your heating bills will be. Having a quality maintenance inspection and cleaning is like resetting your furnace back to zero every year. It’s not going to last forever, but it will last longer and you’ll encounter fewer repairs and problems along the way.

If your furnace is nearing the end of its life cycle, or has already stopped working on you, call Cannan Heating and Cooling today at (618) 252-2665 we will send one of our heating experts to give you the answers you need.
